In the south of Malawi, precisely in Balaka, Father Mario Pacifici, a Monfort missionary, arrived here thirty-five years ago and founded the “Let’s Go Youth Cooperative Trust” with Cesare Castelli, which now has almost 700 workers.
The number of children treated in the outpatient department of the Comfort Community Hospital has increased significantly over the years. As you can see in the graph below, in the fourth week of last year we treated 155 children in our outpatient department, and this year we treated 838 children in the same week. That’s an average of 150 kids a day! (and these numbers don’t include the adults we are dealing with!)
January is always a busy month because it is the rainy season, and this leads to an increase in malaria cases. However, the increase in treated children that we recorded from last year to this year is due to the decision we made several months ago to treat all pediatric patients (aged 15 years and under) for free.
A huge thank you to everyone who has allowed us to provide medical care to so many children! Thanks to Project Malawi Onlus and Dr. Pappone for their substantial monthly financial support – thanks to all those who have generously donated their money, time and/or experience – thanks to everyone in Italy for having worked so hard to raise funds for the hospital – and thanks to all the staff in our outpatient department for working so hard!
